Urbana’s wrestling team pulled away from visiting Bellefontaine for a 43-21 victory Thursday night in the inaugural “Battle for 68” at Urbana High School.
“It was a good dual between two evenly matched teams,” said BHS head coach Aaron LaBatt. “We obviously are not happy with the outcome, but our guys didn’t wrestle poorly.
“We each tried to make some chess moves and they had two matches that caused a 12-point swing. If we benefit from those the score is much closer. We hung tough and lost a number of matches by a point or two, but we have to respond from those.”
Recording wins for the Chieftains were Gaige Reeves (106), Zach Yoesting (113), Austin Baker (126) and Trey Henderson (145).
“Those guys took care of their business,” said LaBatt. “Austin had a solid double overtime win and Trey continues to improve. We made progress even in some of our losses tonight.”
Bellefontaine travels to Graham on Wednesday to face Indian Lake in the first round of the OHSAA state duals.
