Officials from the United Way of Logan County are announcing the recipients of 2020 CARES Act funding that it received as a sub-recipient from the City of Bellefontaine ($100,000) and the Logan County Commissioners ($50,000) to distribute to Logan County 501c3 organizations who serve individuals who have been impacted by COVID-19.
This is excess funding the local government entities received earlier in the year and need to use by the end of the year or return it to the state, United Way officials explained.
A total of 19 agencies applied for the funding by the Nov. 20 deadline, requesting $342,024. Upon review by the United Way Board of trustees, here is a summary of the 17 501c3 organizations who will be splitting the available $150,000:
• Bellefontaine Cultural Arts Commission — $1,520 to purchase equipment and supplies for safe, youth educational activities.
• Discovery Riders — $2,210 for bedding / food for horses and for PPE for staff and volunteers.
• Gifts with Grace — $1,134 for program materials in their outreach to at-risk women.
• Holland Theatre — $2,286 to purchase equipment to provide virtual performances.
• Kirkmont Center — $3,620 for PPE and other COVID-related materials for their facility.
• LifeCare Alliance — $2,500 to reimburse extra drivers for delivery of meals-on-wheels.
• Little Learners Christian Day School — $600 for a commercial food warmer and table to serve meals to children in their child care program.
• Logan County Cancer Society — $17,200 for gas cards to provide transportation for cancer patients to out-of-town treatments.
• Logan County Family & Children First Council — $8,640 to provide winter clothes to preschool children, and for technology that will further enable them to work remotely with their at-risk families.
• Logan County Homeless Shelter — $9,525 for their emergency shelter fund for overflow situations.
• Lutheran Community Services — $41,075 for food for their Christmas basket giveaway, daily meal operation, and toward the cost of a new freezer.
• Mary Rutan Medication Assistance Program — $7,200 to create take-home care packages to give to COVID-patients upon release from the hospital.
• Recovery Zone — $3,200 for a commercial oven for on-site meal preparation and smart TV’s to better facilitate their remote support groups.
• Residential Administrators — $2,275 for cleaning supplies and materials for their housing units.
• Second Harvest Food Bank — $34,000 toward the cost of a new refrigerated truck to be used in Logan County food distributions.
• Union Station — $6,250 for their Outreach Ministry that includes rent/utility assistance.
• YMCA of Central Ohio — $6,765 for COVID-related cleaning supplies and PPE at the Hilliker YMCA
Recipient organizations had to: Be a 501c3 organization; be located in and serve Logan County; and use funds to serve individuals who have been physically or economically affected by COVID-19 and advance their health, education, or financial stability.
Dollars could be used to expand existing services or programs, stock up on materials and supplies, purchase new equipment/materials, create a safer environment, etc., so long as the expenses can be related to the impact of COVID-19/restrictions.
Funds also must be expended by Dec. 28, and recipients must report back to United Way of Logan County about how the money was spent.
These 2020 CARES Act dollars do not count toward the 2020 United Way campaign, which currently stands at $863,200 toward the $1 million goal.
