Rob Underwood was officially named superintendent of Indian Lake School District for the 2017-18 school year.

The board of education’s decision came during a Friday evening special meeting that also included promotion of Kyle Wagner, curriculum director, to high school principal.
Underwood has been acting as both superintendent and high school principal ever since Pat O’Donnell, the district’s superintendent of seven years, was charged June 19 with sex crimes involving a girl between the ages of 10 and 13.
He had previously received his superintendent certification but had not yet begun applying for such positions. An Upper Scioto Valley graduate, Underwood, 35, began his career as a student teacher at Indian Lake before taking his first teaching job in the Ada School District. He has been assistant principal and high school principal at Indian Lake for most of the past seven years.
He said his immediate goal is to make sure school gets started smoothly despite the fluctuations in the front office.
“I think we were already headed in a good direction,” he said after the decision. “The biggest thing is that we continue the positive momentum in the district.
“It’s unfortunate we have these ancillary issues to deal with but they are not related to what are really here for,” Underwood added. “We have 1,650-plus kids who will be here Aug. 23 and we want to be ready to go.”
