Two theft suspects were arrested Thursday after they walked past an officer of the Bellefontaine Police Department checking a resident along Heritage Drive around 1 a.m.
Jonathan S.L. Cole, 20, of 121 Water Ave., has been charged with four counts of theft, four counts of trespassing into a motor vehicle, single counts of public intoxication, open container of alcohol, underage consumption of alcohol, unlawful possession of certain weapons and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Randy J. Fogle III, 16, of 812 Heritage Court, Apt. 19, faces delinquency charges of five counts of theft, five counts of trespassing into a motor vehicle, and single counts of unlawful possession of certain weapons, possession of marijuana and violating the city’s minor curfew.
They were stopped by the officer as part of ongoing investigations into recent thefts from vehicles. Cole was carrying a backpack and both were wearing dark clothing.
Cole appeared to be intoxicated and smelled of alcohol as he spoke.
The officer also noted the outline of a handgun in the teen’s front sweatshirt pocket. It turned out to be a BB-gun.
The officer also found marijuana, a ring and earrings in a pants pocket.
Cole also had a BB-gun pistol stuck in his waistband. His backpack contained alcoholic beverages, jewelry, coins, money, cigarettes and cigars.
Randy told officers the two had entered vehicles at Newell Street Apartments, 555 Newell St., and one on Colton Avenue. He helped officers locate the four targeted vehicles at the apartments.
