Officers of the Washington Township Police Department arrested three individuals, each on a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug abuse instruments, related to a traffic stop about 12:30 p.m. Monday.
Driver Jessica M. Shoffner, 30, of Russells Point, and her pas- sengers, James Reed, 28, of Dayton, and Nicole Boltz, 26, of Russells Point, each was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
Officers on patrol in the area of State Route 708 and U.S. Route 33 stopped Shoffner’s vehicle for an equipment violation and for driving in the opposite lane of travel.
Contact was made with the driver and Reed. A second passenger, later identified as Boltz, exited the vehicle, but was located a short time later.
While speaking with the occupants, they all had a different story, and admitted to drinking a body cleanse product because they were en route to take a drug screen for probation, officers said.
A consent to search the vehicle was given, and officers seized a syringe with a brown residue believed to be heroin.
The defendants were placed under arrest. Reed also was charged with obstructing official business because he initially lied to officers about his name.
