Brandy N. Durnell, 37; Edward S. Langley Jr., 37; and Jeffrey A. Rivers, 62, all of West Mansfield, each were charged with grand theft related to an incident early Friday morning, March 29.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office on patrol around 12:20 a.m. on County Road 130 observed a sport utility vehicle hauling a trailer parked near the entrance of Stites grocery, 3524 C.R. 130, Bellefontaine. The vehicle had its headlights on and appeared occupied, deputies said.
Deputies approached the driver, later identified as Durnell. She told deputies that she and her two passengers, Edward Langley and Jeffery Rivers, were cleaning out her storage unit in Russells Point, and they had stopped at Stites to adjust the straps and tarps on their trailer.
Deputies said the trailer contained bicycles, totes of clothes and other miscellaneous items.
Deputies also observed in plain view that a motorcycle was on the trailer as well. They asked Darnell about the ownership of the motorcycle. She said she didn’t know who owned it and that it came from the storage units in Lakeview, mentioning that it was “sitting in a unit by itself” that did not have a roof.
Durnell stated that they were going to take the motorcycle to law enforcement to “see who it belonged to.”
Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department contacted the motorcycle owner, who stated no one should have the vehicle.
The three defendants were placed under arrest and were transported to the Logan County Jail.
Deputies noted that Edwards is on probation/parole through the Adult Parole Authority as well.
The suspects’ vehicle, trailer and the motorcycle were towed from the scene to the LCSO impound lot. The rest of the contents inside the trailer were being held for safekeeping during the investigation.
A report was forwarded to the Logan County Prosecutor’s Office and the LCSO investigation division for further review.
