Officers of the Russells Point Police Department report three individuals have been arrested related to an investigation into counterfeit bills that were passed recently at Indian Lake area businesses.
Amanda Wortman-Krick, 40, of Lakeview, was arrested for a felony count of counterfeiting April 20 and was lodged in the Logan County Jail. Brothers Justin Reynolds, 29, of Lakeview, and James Reynolds, 41, of Ft. Jennings, were arrested Friday, and were each charged with fourth-degree felony counts of counterfeiting and fifth-degree felony counts of possession of criminal tools. They also were lodged in the jail.
Officers report the investigation into reports of counterfeit money began April 10.
Wortman-Krick allegedly passed counterfeit bills at Dollar General, 147 East Main St., Russells Point, and McDonald’s, 431 E. Main St.,Russells Point.
Similar incidents were reported at Dollar General on the north side of Indian Lake, 13797 State Route 235, Lakeview, and the Marathon gas station near Indian Lake State Park, 12500 S.R. 235, Lakeview.
Wortman-Krick was identified through surveillance video at the Marathon and both Dollar General stores, as were Justin and James Reynolds, officers said.
April 20, officers located Wortman-Krick at her residence on Channelview Drive just before noon and executed a search warrant. Justin and James were nowhere to be found at that time, officers said.
The search warrant resulted in the discovery of two printers, drug paraphernalia, and drug residue in Wortman-Krick’s home. The printer paper matched the counterfeit money.
Wortman-Krick was placed under arrest at that time, and warrants were requested for the other two defendants.
April 24, the two brothers were arrested as part of the investigation after Justin was caught by Logan County Sheriff’s Office detectives driving a pickup reported stolen by Wortman-Krick’s father. A traffic stop with the vehicle was initiated in the area of state routes 235 and 366, deputies said.
This discovery led officers back to the home on Channelview Drive that had been searched Monday. James was found hiding inside by Washington Township Police Department K9 Bruno.
Deputies also charged Justin with receiving stolen property related to the stolen pickup. The case has been sent to the Logan County Prosecutor’s Office to consider additional charges.
The Washington Township Police Department and Logan County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the investigation.
