West Jefferson’s football team bounced back from last week’s loss to West Liberty-Salem by overpowering visiting Triad 61-28 on Friday in an Ohio Heritage Conference North Division game.
The Cardinals drop to 2-7 overall and 0-4 in the league. The Roughriders, who are ranked ninth in the latest Division V state poll, improve to 8-1, 3-1.
West Jefferson jumped out to a 14-0 lead after the opening quarter. The Roughriders continued to pile on the points in the second quarter by outscoring the Cardinals 26-6. That vaulted West Jefferson to a 40-6 halftime lead.
The third quarter saw West Jefferson build a 54-12 advantage.
Special teams helped Triad score two of its touchdowns on Friday. Ayden Sanford had an 86-yard kickoff return and Coleman Hauck had a 68-yard punt return for a touchdown.
Jordan Simonelli finished with 95 passing yards, including a 27-yard TD pass to Hauck. Simonelli also had 142 rushing yards including a 6-yard touchdown run. Hauck finished with 81 receiving yards.
Triad finishes the regular season at home Friday against Northeastern.
