Adrian D. Highsaw, 33, of 116 Aiken St., Russells Point, was charged with possession of cocaine and was cited for speed and no operator’s license following a traffic stop late Saturday evening.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office initiated the traffic stop in the area of State Route 274 and County Road 23 about 11:45 p.m.
After Mr. Highsaw stopped his vehicle, deputies observed that he was acting suspiciously. The driver reportedly exited his vehicle and began looking inside the engine block of the vehicle.
Deputies also noted that he had dropped a small baggie, and they recovered marijuana and also a white powdered substance that tested positive as cocaine. He was transported to the Logan County Jail.
• Kennith Hillery, 31, of 304 E. Main St., Belle Center, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and was issued a summons for possession of drug paraphernalia following a traffic stop early Saturday morning.
Deputies initiated the stop for a speed violation in the area of U.S. Route 68 and Township Road 219 about 2:50 a.m.
They noted that Mr. Hillery showed signs of intoxication, and he would not submit to field sobriety tests. A glass pipe was located in his pocket during a pat down.
He was transported to the jail for a breath test, which he refused. The defendant also was cited for speed and driving under suspension.
• Joy M. Shoemaker, 32, of Urbana, was charged with OVI and was cited for no headlights following an incident Friday evening.
Deputies initiated a traffic stop about 11:45 p.m. in the area of Lima Street in Huntsville after she was observed driving with no headlights. Ms. Shoemaker admitted to drinking that evening, and submitted to field sobriety tests.
At the jail, she tested a 0.175 blood alcohol content level.
Teens charged with breaking and entering
Haiden Green, 16, of 11304 Pocahontas Path, Chippewa, Lakeview, and a 13-year-old Chippewa area boy each was charged with breaking and entering following an incident Sunday evening.
Deputies were dispatched about 11:30 p.m. to a vacant church property at 13821 Blue Jacket Path, Chippewa, Lakeview, in reference to lights on inside the building.
When deputies arrived, they observed the 13-year-old in front of the church. He said he went inside the building to get WiFi access for his cellular phone. Haiden was located inside the building, and he said he did not have permission to be at the facility.
Deputies recovered a number of items inside the church where the two boys had been congregating, including DVDs, a knife, a multi-tool kit and two empty bottles of liquor. The teens were transported to the Logan County Juvenile Detention Center.
Driver cited after U.S. 68 crash
Dylan M. Robinson, 17, of Belle Center, was cited for failure to control Sunday morning following a non-injury crash on U.S. Route 68 at State Route 638.
Deputies report he was operating a northbound car just after midnight when he went off the right side of the road, struck a culvert and a road sign, and then went through a ditch and struck a pedestal box and utility pole. Damage to his car was heavy and the driver was wearing his seat belt.
Woman lodged for criminal trespass, assault
Lori A. Cowan, 54, of 552 North St., Bellefontaine, was charged with criminal trespass, assault and resisting arrest following an incident Sunday evening.
Deputies were dispatched about 9:50 p.m. to Becky Coy’s 586 S. County Road 31, Bellefontaine, residence in reference to an unwanted guest.
When deputies arrived, they found Ms. Cowan sitting on the front steps of the residence. She said she had been trying to collect money from Ms. Coy for several weeks and refused to leave.
Deputies notified her that if a property owner instructs her to leave and she doesn’t comply, trespassing charges can be filed. They also informed her about how to file a complaint in small claims court. However, Ms. Cowan said Ms. Coy was her friend, and that she didn’t want to file a claim against her.
Ms. Coy opened her door and said to deputies that she had already paid Ms. Cowan back. She said the defendant also had been harassing her at church and at her workplace.
During the conversation, the defendant allegedly approached Ms. Coy and punched her in the face before engaging in a brief struggle with deputies. She was arrested and transported to the Logan County Jail.
