Melody S. Aitchison, 29, of Columbus, was charged with trafficking in drugs and possession of drugs after a traffic stop Friday, where suspected methamphetamine, black tar heroin, crack rocks, prescription drugs and other items were seized, deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report.
Deputies received a report about 4:30 p.m. regarding a driver along east U.S. Route 33 falling asleep at the wheel.
The driver reportedly exited U.S. 33 onto U.S. Route 68 and deputies observed that her vehicle had no license plates at all, so a traffic stop was initiated in the McDonald’s parking lot, 1127 N. Main St.
While speaking with the driver, deputies said she acted nervous and shaky and her pupils appeared to be almost pinpoint. Deputies also observed a faint odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. She also was operating the vehicle while under a 12-point license suspension, deputies said.
K9 Thor was deployed on the vehicle and indicated on the driver’s side front door. A vehicle search was conducted, and deputies recovered baggies with the suspected meth, black tar heroin, crack rocks and Xanax bars. A scale, glass/plastic viles and other paraphernalia were located in the vehicle, along with $470 in cash.
Aitchison was placed under arrest and was transported to the Logan County Jail without incident, deputies said. The vehicle was towed to the sheriff’s office impound lot to conduct further processing.
The case has been sent to the Logan County Prosecutor’s Office for determination of further charges.
