The following temporary traffic flow changes have been implemented for the Russells Point area Saturday evening, July 7, following the Indian Lake fireworks, as announcecd by the Russells Point and Washington Township police departments which are combining patrol efforts:
• East and west bound stops signs at the intersections along Main Street (State Route 366) will be covered to allow a free flow of traffic, the speed limit for which remains 25 mph;
• Access points from U.S. 33 to Main Street at Sunnyside Avenue (Donut Shop) Clermont Street (Family Dollar), State Route 708 north of U.S. 33 (Huntington Bank) and Lincoln Boulevard (the former Wedge), will be closed only as long as necessary to quickly move both incoming and outgoing traffic at the conclusion of the fireworks:
• Traffic lights on U.S. 33 at S.R. 708 and Township Road 239 will be set to flash yellow east and west and red to north and south traffic.
• Access to U.S. 33 can be gained from roadways west of Russells Point near Lakeview and east of Russells Point from County Roads 94 on toward Huntsville.
• Intersections through Russells Point are closed because they can handle only one to two vehicles before obstructing traffic flow. Russell Point Chief Joe Freyhof and Washington Township Chief Rick Core worked with the Ohio Department of Transportation to set up the changes.
Resources will be focused on traffic enforcement with particular emphasis on the detection and apprehension of intoxicated and distracted drivers, the chiefs reported.
