Tracy Howard Humble, 96, of Inverness, Fla., passed away March 2, 2018, while under the care of Hospice of Citrus and the Nature Coast, Lecanto.
Tracy was born March 24, 1921, in Champaign County, to the late Frank and Clara Mosbarger Humble. He attended school in Urbana and was valedictorian of his high school class. Tracy proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army and was a veteran of World War II. During his military service he was stationed in India and worked as an engineer on the railroad.
He came home to work on the New York Central Railroad for the next 10 years. Tracy met the love of his life, Dorothy Marine, at a skating rink when he was 20, and she 19. They were wed in 1942, and had a loving marriage that lasted 69 years until her passing in 2011.
Every day they spent together they made an effort to tell one another how much they were loved. Tracy and Dorothy made Citrus County, Fla., their winter home in 1975 while continuing to spend the rest of the year in West Liberty.
He was past president of the Lions Club of West Liberty, served on the West Liberty Fairview Cemetery Board, and was one of the original board of directors of the Green Hills Retirement Center. A man of faith, he was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Inverness, and a member of the Church of Christ in Christian Union, Urbana. Tracy was the very first member of the Lakeside Golf and Country Club, Inverness, and was proud that he had shot his age in golf more than 130 times. He was the founder of Humble Construction in West Liberty and had planned, designed, and built more than 500 homes throughout his career. Tracy was quite an adventurer and had traveled the globe. Some of his destinations included Japan, South America, Europe, and Dubai, U.A.E.
Those left to mourn Tracy’s passing include his daughters, Sandra Humble Johnson of West Liberty; Heidi Humble (Scott) Poe of Blackstone, Va.; son, Paul “Terry” (Jane) Humble of Indian Lake; grandchildren, Matt, Lance, Steve, Brooke, Taka and Oliver.
In addition to his loving wife Dorothy, Tracy was preceded in death by nine siblings, Ruby, Roy, Henry, Harold, Richard, Violet, Mary, Marjorie and Donnie; and a son-in-law, Dan Johnson.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 20, at the Church of Christ in Christian Union, 1121 N. Main St., Urbana.
