Bellefontaine’s track and field teams made a strong impression in their own Chieftain Relays on Friday.
The Lady Chiefs were second out of seven teams and the boys finished third. Benjamin Logan also competed. The girls team took fourth and the boys finished sixth. Delaware Hayes won the girls meet with 86 points.
Bellefontaine had 79 for second, DeSales was third (78), Ben Logan had 67 for fourth, Kenton was fifth (58), Wapakoneta placed sixth (48) and Lima Shawnee was seventh.
The Lady Chiefs won three events. The shuttle hurdles team of Jailyn Foulk, Jillian Ullom, Callie Shumaker and Kylie Adams finished first (1:08.53) and the team of Kelsie Snapp, Lexi Robinson and Perri Neeld won both the discus (school record of 338-10) and the shot put 97-11.
Taking second for Bellefontaine were the 6,400 relay team of Kailyn Newman, Brianne Sechrest, Ella Reier and Grace Brown (24:19.55), the sprint medley of Parker Penhorwood, Ava Reeves, Shumaker and Adams (1:56.1) and the long jump team of Adams, Reeves and Hannah Wilson (44-1.25).
The 400 relay team of Parker Penhorwood, Reeves, Adams and Shumaker was third (50.61) and fourth-place finishes went to the 800 relay of Reeves, Elyncia Allen, Parker Penhorwood and Claire McDaniel (1:58.21), the 3,200 relay team of Brown, Newman, Kayleigh Flora and Wilson (11:08.67) and the high jump group of Shumaker, Parker Penhorwood and Flora (12-6).
Adding seventh-place finishes were the 1,600 relay team of Allen, Jillian Ullom, Harper Penhorwood and Flora (4:48.27) and the distance medley of Wilson, Harper Penhorwood, Maddie Christman and Reier (12:34.58).
“The competition was great leading to many great times,” said Bellefontaine head coach Ben Davis. “The discus relay broke our school record that stood for 20 years. We had major contributions from sprints, field and distance.”
Ben Logan’s girls team was led by a first-place finish from the long jump team of Isabel Henderson (17-02.5), Mya Burrey (14-05) and Abby Vance (15-00.75).
Taking second for the Lady Raiders were the discus group of Lauren Hemmelgarn (88-11), Kaylee Hays (71-03) and Kyla Godwin (83-05) and the distance medley of Lexi Archer, Mylee Boysel, Lauren Kennedy and Georgia Bates (10:45.55).
Third-place efforts for the Raiders came from shot put group of Hemmelgarn, Kearstin Linkinhoker and Lahna Cook (24-05), the high jump team of Vance, Aleah France and Bailey Lewis (4-0), the shuttle hurdles team of Henderson, Kate Gulick, Hays and Archer (1:12.30) and the 800 relay of Vance, Burrey, Gulick and Henderson (1:50.64).
Taking fourth were the 6,400 relay of Bates, Hadley Boysel, Estella Wenger and Peyton Smith (24:32.64) and the 400 relay team of Vance, Burrey, Gulick and Henderson (51.36).
Taking sixth for Ben Logan was the 1,600 relay of Gulick, Burrey, Ella Chamberlain and Bates (4:30.58).
Lima Shawnee won the boys meet with 92 points. Delaware Hayes was second with 76, Bellefontaine had 72 points for its third-place finish, Wapakoneta was fourth (58.5), DeSales took fifth (53.5), Ben Logan had 50.5 points for sixth and Kenton was seventh (47.5).
Leading the BHS boys with wins were the 800 relay of Caden Snapp, Jacob Henry, Kaiden Foulk and Harper Scott (1:34.30), the 6,400 relay of Hayden Maus, Jake Moreland, Seth Taylor and Tony Stewart (19:16.21) and the sprint medley of Snapp, Henry, Scott and Foulk (1:39.02).
Taking third for the Chiefs were the 400 relay of Snapp, Henry, Foulk and Scott (44.89), the 1,600 relay of Zavier May, Snapp, Scott and Foulk (3:41.30), the 3,200 relay of Oliver Grandstaff, Moreland, Wes Dunn and May (9:06.70), the distance medley of Maus, Alex Crabill, Dunn and Stewart (8:52.02) and the shot put team of Anthony Stamm, Jordan Hensley and Haiden Manns (126-6).
Taking fourth were the shuttle hurdles team of Henry, Brandon Wong, Ethan Orahood and Cayden Downing (1:09.61) and the discus group of Anthony Stamm, Hensley and Manns (323-10).
Adding a seventh-place finish was the long jump team of Blake Loomis, Dunn and Draven Drake (48-4.5).
“We had several career bests despite the windy conditions,” said Davis. “Winning three relays was exceptional. It was a nice balance between the distance crew and sprints.” Ben Logan’s boys team was led by third-place finishes from the high jump team of Greyshan Bailey, Ethan Miller and Diesel Baughman (15-9) and the 800 relay of Carter Buck, Ben Chamberlain, Dylan Vance and Candin Tucker (1:37.11).
Finishing in fourth for the Raiders were the 1,600 relay team of Carter Buck, Chamberlain, Vance and Tyler Shoopman (3:41.89) and the long jump team of Ethan Miller, Evan Carpenter and Josh Rich (51-11.5).
Fifth-place finishes for BL went to Jacob Horton, Jaxon Bowman and Gus Bibart in the shot put (104-11) and discus (28 1/3), the sprint medley team of Collin Powell, Chamberlain and Tucker (46.02).
Taking sixth were the distance medley of Shoopman, Kyle Kibler, Carter Buck and Eric Hughes (9:28.30) and the shuttle hurdles team of Rich, Powell, Cooper Buck and Carter Buck (1:09.89).
Adding seventh-place finishes for the Raiders were the 3,200 relay team of Eli Rhodes, Landon Zehner, Owen Weeks and Maxwell Troth (9:37.89) and the 6,400 relay team of Rhodes, Gabe Elsasser, Weeks and Troth (22:14.05).
