The Tigers fell down 2-1 with 30:36 left in the game after Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy converted a penalty kick. However, WL-Salem responded with two goals to pull out a 3-2 victory and its first district title.
“Everyone picked up their game after they went ahead,” said WL-Salem head coach Andy Cotrell. “I thought we controlled most of the game after that.”
WL-Salem, now 17-2, advances to the regional semifinal round where it will face Cincinnati Summit Country Day at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Beavercreek High School.
It was a physical contest Thursday, but that did not surprise Cotrell.
“We knew coming in they would be physical,” said the Tigers’ head coach. “Those are the types of teams that have given us trouble. But the girls didn’t back down. I am proud of them.”
