West Liberty-Salem’s football team has already locked up a state playoff berth entering the final week of the regular season according to www.joeeitel.com. The Tigers will have a chance to secure a home playoff game if they can win Friday against Mechanicsburg.
After last Friday’s win, WL-Salem (8-1) is sitting fourth in Division V, Region 20. A win this Friday over M’burg would likely cement a home game in the first round of the state playoffs.
The top eight teams in each region earn a state playoff berth. The official playoff pairings will be released Sunday at www.ohsaa.org.
Indian Lake (5-4) has not been mathematically eliminated from the postseason, but would need a lot of help to get a state berth. The Lakers are currently 11th in Division V, Region 20.
The rest of the local teams have fallen out of playoff contention.
In the latest ratings, Bellefontaine (5-4) dropped to 15th in Division III, Region 11, and Benjamin Logan (2-7) is 21st in Division IV, Region 16.
Triad (2-7) is now 24th in Division VI, Region 24. In Division VII, Region 28, Riverside (4-5) is 12th and Ridgemont (1-8) is 24th.
