West Liberty-Salem’s girls basketball team fought off visiting West Jefferson for a 43-34 victory Thursday in Ohio Heritage Conference action.
The Tigers improve to 6-1 overall and 4-0 in the OHC North division, while the Roughriders fall to 3-3, 1-2.
WL-Salem came away with a 14-10 lead after the opening quarter and outscored the Roughriders 9-8 in the second period. That gave the Tigers a 23-18 lead entering halftime.
The third quarter saw WL-Salem continue to pull away with a 12-8 run. That pushed their lead to a 35-27 score.
Selena Weaver led the Tigers in scoring with 17 points, Grace Estes had 10 points and Sophie Cole added seven points and six rebounds.
In junior varsity action, WL-Salem dropped West Jefferson 23-16. Mandilyn Weaver led the Tigers with seven points.
WL-Salem travels to Greeneview on Thursday for its next OHC contest.
