Thomas Lowell Clay, 75, of Sidney, passed away at 6 a.m. Monday, Feb. 6, 2017, at his home. He was born Feb. 18, 1941, in Pemberton, a son of the late Warren and Izabelle Houchin Clay.
On Nov. 27, 1981, he married Deborah Vehorn, who survives along with one son, Lowell Thomas (Heather) Clay of Hopkinsville, Ky.; two stepchildren, Tim (Joy) Holly of Los Angeles and Cheryl Doroha of Ft. Carson, Colo.; one brother, Robert (Rose) Clay of Ellington, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Delpha Crim, and one brother, Dave Clay.
He was a 1959 graduate of Fairlawn High School, where he served on the Honor Society Inductee Committee. He proudly served his country as a U.S. Army veteran during the Vietnam War.
Tom retired from the Veterans Service Office in Sidney. He served as chairman for the 2nd District American Legion baseball team for 36 years. He was a life member of the Sidney American Legion Post 217, where he held multiple positions over the years. He was also a life member of Sidney VFW, Disabled American Veterans and AMVETS, and was a member of the Sidney Elks and Moose lodges.
In keeping with Tom’s wishes, his body will be cremated. A memorial service begins at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 10, at the Sidney American Legion Post 217, 1265 4th Ave., Sidney, where calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with an American Legion service at 7:45 p.m. The Rev. Philip K. Chilcote officiates at the Friday service, which is followed by a committal service, with full military honors by the American Legion, in Cedar Point Cemetery, Pasco.
Arrangements are in the care of Cromes-Edward Funeral Home, 302 S. Main Ave., Sidney.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sidney American Legion baseball team.
