It will be weeks before authorities know why Steven A. Polley, 18, of Russells Point, died Saturday.
Russells Point Police Chief Joe Freyhof said there was no apparent cause of death for the 2017 Indian Lake graduate, and toxicology tests will be critical in determining a cause.
His office was called to the residence around 6:30 a.m. and administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation efforts until an Indian Lake squad arrived on scene. An antiopioid shot was administered and had no effect on the suspect.
Chief Freyhof said hypodermic needles were found in the victim’s bedroom where he died along with packets with white powder residue. Even so, it did not appear to be related to heroin or opioid abuse.
“We’re trained and conditioned to look for that now,” he said, “and it just didn’t match up.”
He noted Polley had been injecting steroids which can purchased legally through online suppliers.
There also were numerous bottles of alcohol in the room.
His office continues its investigation and will follow up if there is any indication of criminal acts in the man’s death.
