A 16-year-old girl was flown by LifeFlight helicopter to an area hospital after sustaining non-lifethreatening injuries in a private property all-terrain vehicle crash just before noon Tuesday, deputies report.
Indian Lake EMS and Lakeview Fire Department also responded to the crash at 15656 Township Road 189, where the teen had “flipped the ATV,” according to sheriff’s office dispatcher’s reports. The girl’s name was unavailable at press time.
• Joanne E. Birt, 57, of Urbana, was transported by Bellefontaine Fire and EMS to Mary Rutan Hospital for non-incapacitating injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday evening.
Deputies report Tyler Waltz, 21, of Bellefontaine, was exiting a driveway in a pickup at 1530 County Road 1 about 6:40 p.m., attempting to turn northbound onto C.R. 1. He failed to yield the right of way to a southbound sport utility vehicle operated by Birt, and the SUV struck the driver’s side door of the pickup, causing heavy damage to both vehicles.
Waltz reported possible injuries, but was not transported from the scene. He was cited for failure to yield.
Both drivers were wearing their seat belts, but a front seat passenger in the Waltz vehicle, Richard E. Groves III, 21, of Lakeview, admitted to deputies that he was not wearing his seat belt. He was cited for no seat belt.
