Compliance checks conducted at county high schools
Several hundred high school pupils who were “caught” wearing their seat belts this week and last week were treated to a reward during a round of compliance checks conducted by the Logan County Sheriff’s Office and Bellefontaine Police Department.
Deputies and officers greeted student drivers and passengers Friday at the entrances to Bellefontaine and Riverside high schools, and Tuesday at Benjamin Logan and Indian Lake high schools and the Ohio Hi-Point Career Center.
Those who were wearing their seat belts received a ticket of sorts — a coupon for a free McDouble sandwich and medium drink from McDonald’s locations, 1127 N. Main St. and 1780 S. Main St., Bellefontaine, or 431 E. Main St., Russells Point, as an incentive to keep up the good habit. McDonald’s has partnered on this end-of-the school-year enforcement effort with law enforcement for several years.
“We’re giving the extra reminder and extra reward for the students who were wearing their seat belts,” Bellefontaine Police Officer Andy Kennedy said during the check at BHS with the help of the school’s DARE Club.
“We like to offer these kinds of reminders around the time of prom and the end of the school year.”
