A Kentucky woman is facing felony charge of illegal assembly or possession of chemicals to manufacture drugs after officers of the Russells Point Police Department uncovered a possible mobile meth lab during a traffic stop with her vehicle early Monday morning.
Ashley K. Hurless, 31, of Somerset, Ky., was charged with possession of drug abuse instruments and possession of drugs and was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
About 3:45 a.m., Russells Point officers were notified about a person missing from Bellefontaine.
While checking the 400 block of east Main Street in Russells Point, officers noticed a vehicle parked on the side and rear of Village Laundry with no lights on.
When the officer’s headlights illuminated the vehicle the driver ducked down out of view and appeared to conceal something.
In light of the suspicious activity, officers decided to make contact with the vehicle and identified the driver as Hurless.
While officers were speaking with Hurless, they noticed she was nervous and exhibited signs of drug impairment. She was asked to step out of the vehicle and a K9 was requested.
Prior to the arrival of the dog, the defendant began to admit she had drug paraphernalia in the vehicle and showed officers a bag that contained three glass pipes with burnt residue inside.
Officers also located an uncapped syringe with brown residue inside of Hurless’ wallet. She was placed under arrest and transported to the Logan County Jail.
While at the jail, Hurless told officers she was surprised they did not find more syringes as well as methamphetamine inside her vehicle.
In light of her admission and the fact officers observed potentially volatile chemicals, the Bureau of Investigation and Identification was contacted to assist with processing the vehicle. Methamphetemine and a variety of chemicals used for the manufacturing of methamphetemine were found in the vehicle.
