Around 8:25 p.m., officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department met with Kerri L. Emrick, of the same address, who reported the suspect had assaulted her and then fled the residence.
She said he hit her with a belt, grabbed her by the neck, forced her down and smacked a cellular phone from her hand as she tried to call 911.
Officers observed red welts on her left arm consistent with belt lashings and red marks on her neck.
Her 14-year-old son witnessed the assault and called 911.
The suspect was found at 501 S. Troy Road and taken into custody. He denied assaulting the victim, saying she did it to herself to get him in trouble.
He was peaceful during his transport to the Logan County Jail. But once there, he became enraged and fought with corrections staff and the officer. Pepper spray was used to subdue him and he was strapped into a restraint chair.
He has a previous conviction for domestic violence.
