Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched about 6:30 a.m. on a report of a suspicious vehicle being towed out of a yard at 490 S. Main St., Lakeview.
Deputies said the vehicle at the scene was hauling nine metal fence posts. There also was damage to the yard from the vehicle, with deputies observing ruts in the yard behind a shed and between the house and the garage.
Slagle’s wife was on the scene with the vehicle, and she said her husband had gotten the vehicle stuck in the yard. The vehicle was towed from the scene.
About 6 p.m. that day, deputies were able to speak with the property owner, Darin
Dooley, who reported that he had noticed a roll of fencing missing from inside his shed. He also observed that door to the garage had been damaged by someone trying to pry it open.
Deputies spoke with Slagle at his residence and they observed a roll of fencing inside his garage. He reportedly stated to deputies that the property owner had previously told him that he could take the fence if it was still there in March. He could not provide the property owner’s name.
The defendant confirmed that he was at the property at 2 a.m. Wednesday to get the fence, stating that he works night shift so that’s when he’s awake.
