Nicholas S. Marker, 36, of 2499 County Road 55, Lot 7, Bellefontaine, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, along with theft, domestic violence and menacing after several incidents that occurred Friday at his residence and in Russells Point.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office first were dispatched to his address about 4:15 p.m. to speak with his live-in girlfriend, Latisha Grimes, 26. She said her boyfriend had been more and more agitated throughout the week, and said he had taken the keys to her vehicle.
About 45 minutes later, deputies responded to the address again to speak with roommate David Adkins, 26. He said Mr. Marker had assaulted him by hitting him in the face, and that the defendant also kicked in a door. Ms. Grimes also witnessed the assault.
The defendant was located later that evening after he nearly caused a traffic crash in the village of Russells Point. An officer of the Russells Point Police Department observed Mr. Marker operating a pickup nearly out of control while coming around the bend near Indian Head Road House. The officer motioned the driver to stop, but the driver went around him and continued east on Main Street, failing to make a complete stop at Main Street and Wilgus Street.
The Russells Point officer provided a description of the vehicle and occupants to dispatch for other officers to be on the lookout. The vehicle was quickly located at the spillway just outside of Russells Point, and officers noted that Mr. Marker displayed signs of intoxcation.
The defendant failed field sobriety tests, and was transported to the Logan County Jail, where he submitted to a breath test, providing a sample of 0.141 BAC.
In addition to the OVI charge, he was charged with reckless operation, failure to comply with the lawful order of a police officer, driving under suspension and was served two warrants. He was lodged in the jail.
