The United Way of Logan County conducts its annual “Stuff the Bus” school supply drive to assist area students with donations accepted through Friday, Aug. 5, at a number of area locations.
The drive culminates Saturday, Aug. 6, with United Way volunteers collecting outside the Bellefontaine Walmart and Big Lots. Shoppers will be encouraged to pick up an extra item or two on the list as they shop and drop it off on their way out of the store.
Other drop-off locations that are collecting through Friday include: AcuSport Corporation, Alan Galvez Insurance, Bellefontaine First United Methodist Church, Benjamin Logan Schools board office, Community Markets (Main Street, Bellefontaine and Lakeview), First Lutheran Church in Bellefontaine, Heartland of Bellefontaine and Indian Lake, Hilliker Y, Logan County Libraries (all branches), Midwest Express, Shelly Materials and Shoe Sensation in Bellefontaine.
Items being collected include art supplies, backpacks, baggies (all sizes), colored pencils, composition notebooks, crayons, disinfecting wipes, folders, glue, glue sticks, highlighters, index cards, markers, notebooks, paper, paper towels, pencils, pens (blue and black), post-it notes, rulers, school boxes, scissors, and tissues.
Local businesses and shoppers are partnering with us to collect items for needy students in area schools so that they can complete their classwork.
All donated items will be sorted for distribution to area teachers and guidance counselors to use in their classrooms, including Bellefontaine, Benjamin Logan, Calvary Christian, Indian Lake, Ohio Hi-Point, Riverside and West Liberty-Salem.
United Way accepting funding applications for 2017 allocations
The United Way of Logan County is currently accepting funding requests through Monday, Oct. 10, from local non-profit agencies to access funds from its upcoming fall campaign.
To receive funding through the regular allocations process for 2017, organizations must serve Logan County and agree to abide by United Way’s Code of Regulations as a funded agency. An emphasis is placed on programs that meet needs in United Way’s impact areas of education, income, and health as well as those filling gaps identified in the 2015 Community Needs Assessment.

For the 2016 allocations process, the United Way awarded $469,077 to 21 local funded agencies, which included: American Red Cross ($9,392), Boy Scouts of America Tecumseh Council ($11,000), Catholic Charities of Southwestern Ohio ($80,000), Community Action Organization ($10,000), Consolidated Care ($24,335), Discovery Riders ($20,560), Don M. & Margaret Hilliker YMCA ($15,840), Girl Scouts of Western Ohio ($11,000), Green Hills DayBreak Center ($20,000), Habitat for Humanity ($20,000), LifeCare Alliance Meals on Wheels ($12,000), Lighthouse Community Shelter ($18,000), Logan County Cancer Society ($32,133), Logan County Children & Family First Council ($15,000), Logan County Neighborhood Outreach ($12,000), Lutheran Community Services Our Daily Bread ($35,000), Mary Rutan Medication Assistance Program ($15,000), Transportation Logan County ($23,000) United Service Organization ($5,316), Universal Home Health & Hospice ($40,000), and Warm Clothes for Kids ($40,000).
