Bowlers, swimmers honored
Bellefontaine Board of Education members offered their congratulations to two high school state- performing athletic teams — the girls bowling team and girls swim team — during an otherwise routine Monday evening board meeting.
Girls swim team members Amy Fulmer, Emily Fulmer, Shelby Starkey and Molly Schulz, coached by Sharon Lewis, competed at the state meet Feb. 23 and 24 in Canton. The swimmers competed in two relays for the first time in school history, and also competed in three individual events, as previously reported in the Examiner.
The bowling team, coached by Jane Kline, competed Friday at the Division I state tournament at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl, marking the program’s first time at the state level event.
Bowlers Haley Watkins, Hannah Davis and Angel Binfet, Julie Downing, Madison Aldo, Lauren Heminger, Brynn Noffsinger were in attendance at the meeting Monday night, alongside their coach, swim team members and Mrs. Lewis.
“It’s been an exciting time to be a Chief,” Bellefontaine High School Principal Pamela Noeth said. “It’s been a lot of fun watching these two groups.”
“We’re all proud parents as well,” Board President Joan Haushalter said to the students. “You each took advantage of opportunities afforded to you to work hard and do great things. These are memories that you’ll never forget.”
