Couple honored at ‘senior’ prom

A couple who will celebrate their 73rd wedding anniversary this summer relived special moments from their dating years in high school during a dance at Bellefontaine High School.
While dancing to both new tunes and oldies music alike, including an enthusiastic rendition of the Macarena, Elinor and Leroy Dowden, both age 91, were crowned the Savvy Senior and Techy Teen Prom queen and king after being nominated by their peers in the group at the Monday dance.
“We feel so honored today, and also so blessed that we’re enjoying life together for so long,” said Mrs. Dowden, a Bellefontaine High School graduate.
“I’m so fortunate to have her by my side,” Mr. Dowden said of his wife. He is a Huntsville High School graduate.
