From the left, Discovery Center preschoolers Addison Gootee, Evelyn Titus and Colton Burris enjoy a push across the shaving cream ice rink. It’s the most slippery time of the year at the Discovery Center, as this week was the annual Shaving Cream Ice Skating activity for Head Start and preschool students. School officials said they’ve been staging this winter event for longer than they can remember, at least 25 years. To prepare the “skating rink”, individuals cover half of the Discovery Center gym floor in a tarp. Then students and teachers spray shaving cream and water all around for a messy good time. Behavior intervention specialist and long-time preschool teacher Lisa Sulich said students and staff at Discovery Center looks forward to this activity because almost everyone can participate, plus it hits all areas of development including sensory, language, social emotional skills and social engagement.
