A sister pair garnered the top two spots at Thursday’s Logan County Junior Fair Market Goat show, and they said showing livestock, both locally and on the national arena, is a way of life for their family.
“We feel very fortunate and blessed to be able to do that,” said Indian Lake High School freshman Ava Shroyer, who received the reserve grand champion award. “I started showing goats at age 9, and our family pulls together to make all of it possible.
“They have been very supportive of the effort it takes to participate in national shows in other states.”
Heading into Thursday’s competition, 14-year-old Ava said she felt she and her sister Anara’s market goat entries “had a good shot” of faring well.
Indian Lake Middle School fifth-grader Anara received the grand champion award. The 10-year-old and her sister are members of the Miami Valley Producers 4-H.

Their fellow sister Jada Shroyer helped to hold her siblings’ banners while they posed their goats for photos. She received grand champion accolades earlier this week for her market barrow at the swine show.
The family also raises 700 head of sheep at their DeGraff area farm
