Shirley J. Martin Hartlieb, 90, of Bellefontaine, passed away at 7:40 p.m. Saturday, May 26, 2018 at Green Hills Care Center, West Liberty.
She was born in Logan County on Nov. 14, 1927, the daughter of the late Vernon and Neva Pratt McGowan.
In 1949, she married John R. “Jack” Martin and he preceded her in death Nov. 27, 1968. Three children were born of this union, John R. (Dawn) Martin, Janis A. (Jon) Stout and Jeffrey A. (Kim) Martin, all of Logan County. Jack and Shirley were part owners in the Holland Theatre for a number of years.
In 1981, she married Georg Hartlieb and together they ran Myers Shoe Store. He preceded her in death March 16, 2001, and a grandson, Jamie Page, also preceded her in death.
She is also survived by her sister, Lila Clapper of Hamilton; a stepdaughter, Diana (Billy) McAllan of Charleston, S.C.; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Each of Shirley’s children will tell you she was their biggest fan, always encouraging and loving. Throughout her life, Shirley had a love of travel and visited many different countries as well as all 50 states.
Shirley studied the game of bridge her entire life and made many friends playing the game. Most of all, she loved her family and friends.
Pastor Ben Shaeffer officiates a funeral service at 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 321 N. Main St., Bellefontaine, where visitation begins at 1 p.m. Burial is in Bellefontaine Cemetery.
