The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a two-vehicle fatal accident around 10:30 p.m. Saturday night that claimed the life of Edward Paul Fitzpatrick, who was pronounced dead at the State Route 589 and Middleton Hume Road crash scene.
Reports indicate Mr. Fitzpatrick was westbound on Middleton Hume Road, failed to stop at the intersection’s posted stop sign and was struck by a truck operated by Gregory A. Petry, who was traveling north on S.R. 589. The Fitzpatrick vehicle traveled off the south side of Middleton Hume Road and overturned several times in a cornfield, ejecting the driver from his pickup truck.
Perry-Port-Salem Rescue Squad and Fletcher and Rosewood fire departments assisted at the scene. Mr. Petry was treated at the scene by EMS personnel, with no injuries found.
The accident remains under investigation.
