Children in Heather Evans and Stacy Everhart’s classrooms recite Goin’ on a Bear Hunt around a campfire during the Discovery Center’s annual spring program, with a Let’s Go Camping theme Thursday evening at Bellefontaine High School auditorium. The three- to five-years-olds sang songs and recited poems about picnics, canoeing, making s’mores and more. They even told scary stories around the campfire. During a program break, Taylor Stroud and her brother, Drew, from Indian Lake Middle School, and Jack Varner from Bellefontaine Middle School spoke to the crowd about the Come Play at the Peak effort to make playgrounds in Logan County accessible to children of all abilities. “Some kids, like me, are in wheelchairs, or they use a walker or they crawl,” Taylor said. “We want to be able to play with our brothers and sisters and friends.” All donations offered during the event benefitted the playground initiative. The program directed by Discovery Center music therapist Dawn Byus directed ended with a finale featuring nearly a hundred students singing several songs including, I Can Sing a Rainbow and I See Many Colors together.
