“We walked over here to do our exercise,” said 75-year-old Rachel Powell who made the trek from the nearby Luther Manor with her best friend Florence Frazier, 74, and other residents.
Many residents of the community spend the hour from noon to 1 p.m. each Wednesday engaged in a Sit Fit workout presented by Hilliker YMCA instructors Linda Wilcox and Shelley Moore, who travel to various retirement communities to offer the workouts for seniors.
“Every Wednesday we go down there to do our exercises in the apartment,” Ms. Powell said. “It’s just some activity to get people out of their apartments.”
The group traveled to the Logan County Fairgrounds for the workout this week as part of the Senior Day activities hosted by Mary Rutan Hospital.
Other events included a breakfast by the Green Hills Community, Mary Rutan’s skin cancer screenings, lunch by Logan Acres, Heartland of Bellefontaine’s bingo games and an ice cream social, also presented by Green Hills.
Ivan Wilgus of Walnut Grove, who was resting in the shade, said he and his wife Sherry arrived for breakfast and planned to make a full day of it.
“We come every year and we take it all in,” he said. “We’ll probably stay into part of the horse racing.”
