A Bellefontaine businessman reported Monday he received an email threatening his life if he did not pay 0.6 bitcoin. The value of a bitcoin is more than $17,000 as of Tuesday.
The sender claimed to have an “impeccable” record of carrying out executions. In exchange for the payment, the sender promised to ignore the order and provide the name of the person ordering the hit.
• A clerk at Village Pantry, 1138 N. Main St., was scammed out of $100 during a telephone call to activate Boost Mobile phone cards.
There were multiple transactions, most of which were reimbursed by Boost Mobile. However, the $100 went to reload cards.
• A Bellefontaine resident reported Monday she was scammed out of $14,800. She had applied for a loan from a website and was instructed to purchase insurance to cover the low-interest loan.
Officers report the website is no longer valid.
Man lodged for assault
Benjamin J.P. Rush, 33, of Lima, was charged with assault after he allegedly punched Sheysa Fogle in the chest in a hallway of 812 Heritage Court around 8:45 p.m. Sunday.
Witnesses confirmed Fogle’s account of the altercation. Rush was arrested without incident and lodged in the Logan County Jail.
