Sara Marie Hess, 15, of Urbana, entered Heaven on Friday, Nov. 3, 2017, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile crash.
She was born Nov. 12, 2001, in Springfield, and was a sophomore at Graham High School, where she was president of her class and a member of the Health Occupations Students of America, STEM Club and Student Senate and played volleyball.
She was part of the Sharks Junior Olympics travel volleyball team and was a Junior Falcons volleyball coach. She also was involved in 4-H, the Champaign County Jr. Sheep Council and showing and raising her Tunis sheep flock. She especially enjoyed the lambing season. Sara was an avid member of the Westville United Methodist Church, as well as the church’s youth group and the Worship Eternally singing group. She was a former member of the band and Business Professionals of America.
Sara is survived by her parents, Stuart and Cheryl Campbell Hess; her brothers, Ethan (Tori) and Eric (fiancé Paige McAtee) Hess; maternal grandfather, Richard (Juanita McCrum) Campbell; paternal grandparents, Frank and LaDonna Hess; uncles, Scott (Sheila) Hess and Todd (Michelle) Campbell; cousins, Graham Hess and Jessie and Jackie Campbell; her boyfriend, Gabriel Shockley Wier; and numerous great- aunts and uncles.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Janet Campbell and her uncle, Steve Hess.
Calling is from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, in the gymnasium of Graham High School, St. Paris, with a prayer service following at 7 p.m. Funeral services begin at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 10, in Westville United Methodist Church, Westville, with Pastor Chuck Glover officiating. Burial follows in Concord Cemetery through arrangements by Vernon Funeral Home, Urbana, where condolences may be expressed to the family at www.vernonfh.com.
