Sandra Lee Yelton, 83, of Bellefontaine, passed away Saturday morning, May 29, 2021, at her home.
Sandy was born in Springfield, Ohio, on December 8, 1937, to the late John and Ethel (Shonkwiler) Adrian. She married Charles E. Yelton on April 6, 1957, in Mt. Victory and he preceded her in death on December 2, 1984. Sandy was also preceded in death by a son-in-law Jeff Zedeker, 3 sisters: Betty Piatt, Marie Oakley, and Ann Atcheson, 2 brothers: Jim Adrian and an infant brother, and a great-granddaughter Tiana Monterroza.
Sandy is survived by her daughters: Sue (Tony) Fraber of Bellefontaine, Shari Zedeker of Bellefontaine, Cathy (Bob) Trabert of West Liberty, Tammy Yelton of Lima, and Kim (Don) Vogel of Bellefontaine; a daughter of the heart, Debbie (Max) Neer of DeGraff; 13 grandchildren: Amanda Fraber Shirk, Melissa (David) Scott, Cassandra (Rene) Monterroza, Michael (Anya) Fraber, Bobbie Jo Smith, Jennifer (Jimmie) Ashford, Shannon (Mike) Randolph, Heather (Larry) Yoder, Tara (Logan) Marmon, Chuck (Emily) Vogel, Ashley (Nathaniel) Lowe, Brittany (Joel) Jackson, and Neshea Yelton; 29 great-grandchildren and one on the way; six siblings; Donna Moon, Irene Penwell, John Adrian, Ron Murray, Junior Amspaugh, and Dan Amspaugh; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Sandy was a veteran of the US Navy, having served from July 1956 until her honorable discharge in October 1957. She worked several years as a custodian at Bellefontaine First Church of God. After getting her nursing degree, at the age of 51, she worked 15-plus years at Logan Acres as a nurse. Sandy was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend. She and her husband helped hundreds of families at Christmas time, starting in their home and then moving the help to the church with the bus ministry over a span of 37 years. As a 50-plus year member of the Church of God, she was active on many boards, and touched the lives and helped many people.
Friends may call on Friday, June 4, 2021, from 4-7pm at Bellefontaine First Church of God, 1000 E. Brown Ave. Bellefontaine. Pastors Gary Brown and Melissa Scott will officiate Sandy’s funeral on Saturday at 10am at the church. Burial will follow in Huntsville Cemetery.
