Owen “Bud” Van Voorhis, 87, of Bellefontaine, passed away at 4:30 p.m. Friday, May 28, 2021, at Belle Springs Nursing & Rehab in Bellefontaine. He was born on November 23, 1933, in Zanesfield, a son of the late Guy and Helen (Quinn) Van Voorhis Ferner.
On December 24, 1952, Bud married the former Mary S. Castle in Richmond, Indiana, and she preceded him in death on November 9, 2020. He was also preceded in death by a son, Steven Kyle Van Voorhis; and a daughter-in-law, Delena Van Voorhis.
Bud is survived by five children, Eric Van Voorhis, Michael Van Voorhis, Kelly (Kim Hill) Van Voorhis, Cindy (Mark) Oppy, and Debra Van Voorhis; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; a great-great grandson; four sisters; a brother; and many nieces and nephews.
Bud retired as Assistant Chief from the Bellefontaine Fire Department. Following retirement, he worked as an Assistant Manager for Community Markets in Marysville. Bud loved to cut wood and absolutely adored his grandkids. He was very generous person who would help anyone he could.
Pastor Glory Geib will officiate a celebration of life service, for both Bud and Mary, at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 13, at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 321 N. Main St., in Bellefontaine. Burial will be in Greenwood-Union Cemetery in DeGraff, at a later date.
