Sandra Lee Alspaugh Shields Shoffner, age 77, of Bellefontaine, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2020, at her residence.
She was born in her parents’ home in Walnut Grove on July 9, 1943, the daughter of the late Chester Alta and Helen Lucille (Harshbarger) Alspaugh. She was also preceded in death by an infant granddaughter, Mollie Shields and her husband of 20 years, Richard T. Shoffner.
Survivors include, William “Bill” Hoatland, after 20 years of living alone, in 2015, Sandra’s gift from God; a friend, confidant, protector, and partner, Sandra’s sons and daughters-in-law; Allen and Bobbi Shields, Keith and Cherie Shields, Todd and Jayne Shields, Aaron Shields, and Shawn Shoffner, 19 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and two sisters, Loretta Alspaugh LeVan and Carol Alspaugh Shields, and she was blessed with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a special friend, Frannie Hoatland and all of her dear friends.
Sandra grew up and attended school at Rushsylvania 1st grade thru 12th grade and graduated in May of 1961. She worked as a clerk typist at Traveler’s Insurance Company in Columbus for five years, City Loan in Bellefontaine for four years and the Transportation Research Center in East Liberty as a test driver for two years and in the office administration for 23 years.
Pastor Mike Roberts will officiate a funeral service at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 31, 2020, in the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 321 N. Main St. Bellefontaine. Visitation will be on Sunday, Aug. 30, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rushsylvania Cemetery.
