Russell Lynn Tanger, 73, of Glendale, Arizona, passed away on Monday, September 6, 2021, at Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona.
Russell was born on May 18, 1948, in Bellefontaine, Ohio, the son of the late Marion Lindemuth Tanger, and Ruth Evelyn Tanger – Cooper.
Russell was married to his wife Bobi (LaRue) on May 8, 1970 and they celebrated their 51st Anniversary this year. Bobi survives along with two daughters Autumn (Joe) Alford, Brandi (John) Sutton, five grandchildren; Hayden Russell Alford, Garrett Michael Alford, Dylan Allen Black, Pierson Cameron Wells and Riley Venn Wells, a sister Janet Sue (Jim) Donnelly in Bellefontaine, Ohio and a brother Richard Tanger in Otis, Kansas along with many nieces, nephews and friends. He was proceeded in death by his parents, his daughter Heather (Adam) Jean Tanger-Black and brother Robert Marion Tanger.
Russell was a Vietnam Veteran and served in the US Army from January of 1968 through October of 1969, he completed his reserve duty in January of 1974. He loved traveling, spending time with his daughters and spoiling his grandsons. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing whenever time would allow. During the time when the family lived in Flagstaff, he enjoyed hunting deer, elk and turkey.
Russell spent 45 years in the retail industry and retired from Family Dollar as a Regional Vice President where he was able to develop many industry friendships across the country while gaining respect from his peers.
The Heritage Funeral Chapel in Phoenix, Arizona, is handling the arrangements.
In lieu of memorial contributions, the family is requesting that everyone set aside time to enjoy and create memories with their families, capturing them in pictures that can be cherished, handed down, and shared forever. A graveside service is pending.
