Roger L. Young, 56, of Zanesfield, was called home to our Lord at 5:25 p.m. Monday, July 4, 2016, at The James Cancer Hospital, Columbus.
He was born Dec. 7, 1959, in Bellefontaine, a son of Wilma Cole Young, who survives in Bellefontaine, and the late Harold Dean Young. He also was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Jim Clay.
He is survived by his wife, Lori Clay Young; four children, Kassie Young and Kallie Young, both of Zanesfield; Krista (Aaron) Blakely of Huntsville and Kyler Young of Ypsilanti, Mich.; two sisters, Julie Walborn of West Liberty and Gina (Chris) Dyer of Rushsylvania; three brothers, Mike (Debbie) Young of Lakeview, Gary (Bev) Young of Zanesfield and Jamie (Jennifer) Young of Bellefontaine; numerous nieces and nephews, several aunts and uncles; and his mother-in-law, Pat Clay of East Liberty.
Roger worked in concrete and construction throughout his career. He attended the East Liberty United Methodist Church and had belonged to the VFW and the Sons of AMVETS, both in Bellefontaine, where he enjoyed shooting pool and being around his friends. He also enjoyed being outdoors, especially fishing, and sitting around the campfire telling stories and jokes, no matter the quality. Music was also a big part of his life as he enjoyed playing his guitar and making up songs to go along. In his younger days, he liked to play fastpitch softball. But most of all, Roger was happiest when he had all of his family together.
Rev. Linda Dullin-Moore officiates a memorial service at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, July 10, in the East Liberty United Methodist Church, East Liberty, with informal visitation to follow.
Memorial contributions may be made to the church at 2392 Main St., East Liberty, OH 43319.
