Rodger Dean Jones Sr., 75, of DeGraff, passed away at 10:19 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2018, at Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine. He was born in Springfield on Sept. 14, 1943, to Verna Violet Boggs Jones and the late Estil Jones.
On Dec. 23, 1978, Rodger married the former Virginia Ann Wilt, and she survives in West Liberty.
He is also survived by two daughters, Jenny (Chester Kowalczyk) Purtee and Sara (Craig) Boling; two sons, Rodger (Phyllis) Jones Jr. and Jon (Traci) Jones; 13 grandchildren, Hayley Boling, Alexia Boling, Craig Boling Jr., Maci Jones, McKinzie Jones, Cole Jones, Mindy Smith, Nathan (Karli) Purtee, Chelsea Purtee, Brooklynn Purtee, Ashley (Kyle) Egbert, Meggin (Mark) Parker and Tara (Sean) Pennington; 10 great-grandchildren, Karlee Purtee, Chasen Hanselman, Austin Eaton, Courtnie Smith, Dylan Smith, Caleb Hall, Alaina Pennington, Ariah Egbert, Korah Egbert and Lillian Parker; four sisters, Reva Wooten, Bonnie (Michael) Lewe, Gale Worman and Linda Boggs.
In addition to his father, Rodger was preceded in death by his sister, Sharon Kerns; and two brothers, Earnie and Billy Jones.
A 1963 graduate of Shawnee High School, Rodger retired from LeRoi Dresser after working 29 years as a bench press operator. He attended New Beginnings Community Church in DeGraff.
Calling is from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, at Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, 210 W. Hayes St., DeGraff, where a funeral service begins at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21. Burial follows in Greenwood- Union Cemetery in DeGraff.
