ROBINSON JR. |
A man, whose half-brother died of injuries inflicted by their father, faces sentencing Dec. 13 for injuring a 13-month-old child of his girlfriend.
Michael B. Robinson Jr., 23, pleaded guilty last week to two counts of felonious assault, second-degree felonies, and two counts of tampering with evidence, third-degree felonies.
In exchange, the Logan County Prosecutor’s Office dropped a felonious assault charge and two counts of child endangering.
He was arrested Aug. 28 four days after deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office were called to Mary Rutan Hospital after the child was brought in with multiple injuries.
The child was diagnosed with multiple leg fractures and was transferred to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus.
The child is now in court-ordered protective supervision.
Robinson could be sentenced up to eight years for each second-degree felony and three years apiece for the third-degree felonies.
The defendant’s father, Michael Robinson, 53, is currently serving a prison sentence for the death of Dana Robinson, after a beating that the child endured at the hands of his father.
The morning of Feb. 26, 2007, Robinson Sr. called 911 to report Dana, then 11 months old, was not breathing. He greeted Bellefontaine paramedics at the door with the boy in his arms.
Dana, who sustained severe brain trauma, passed away Nov. 13, 2015, at the age of 9.
In accordance with an April 19, 2017, plea agreement to involuntary manslaughter, Judge Michael S. O’Connor gave Robinson Sr. the maximum 11-year sentence with a start date of April 19, 2017, to run concurrent to the remainder of a 14-year sentence imposed in 2007.
The additional sentence extends the defendant’s time in prison to April 18, 2028.
