Roberta Sue Carpenter, 86, of West Mansfield, passed away Friday, Oct. 6, 2017, at her residence.
Born April 4, 1931, in York Center, she was a daughter of the late Louie and Frances Lynn Farrington. On June 4, 1949, in Greenup, Ky., she married Floyd H. Carpenter and he preceded her in death Dec. 25, 2016.
She also was preceded in death by a son, David Linn Carpenter; a granddaughter, Stephanie Hobart; and brothers, Rod, Richard, Brad and Bob Farrington.
A devoted wife and loving homemaker, she loved spending time with her family. Even when she had to be the disciplinarian, it was done with love. She raised her children and tended to the home while Floyd provided and never complained. Sue was always there to listen and offer advice whether to her family or any of their friends. To say that she was an excellent cook would be an understatement. The family looked forward to any meal she prepared, except for the liver and onions. Quite the seamstress, she enjoyed making the children clothing and quilts and loved her root beer barrels.
A 1948 graduate of Rushsylvania High School, in her younger years she worked at the Mt. Victory Cannery and later as a driver for 10 years at TRC. Sue was very giving of her time, often volunteering at the Give and Take in West Mansfield, at the West Mansfield Conservation Club and teaching Sunday school. She was also a long time blood donor, giving many gallons over the years.
Surviving are her children, Danny Carpenter, Donald (Janie) Carpenter, Diane (Jerry) Hobart, Denise (Jim) Beech and Dean Carpenter, all of West Mansfield; grandchildren, Minnie Pound, Ann Elliott, Craig, Chad, Cole, Levi and Holli Carpenter, Jayme Cummins, Jacob and Jeremy Hobart, Katrise Rhodes and Kodrey Beech; 16 great-grandchildren; a sister, Marilyn (Tom) Pugh of West Mansfield; sisters-in-law, Bernice Ganson, Marie Murdock and Pat, Vivian, Dorothy and Betty Farrington; brothers-in-law, Richard (Kathy) Carpenter and Ronald (Nancy) Carpenter; close cousins, Gene and Kay Smith; her faithful little dog, Midge; and numerous nieces and nephews.
