Robert Moore Houser, 96, of Bellefontaine, passed away Monday, Nov. 9, 2020.
Bob was born on Oct. 26, 1924, to Ceril Ford and Jessie Rachel (Moore) Houser in Kenton. In high school, a new girl arrived, Deloris Joan Hubbell, he knew she was “the one.” They shared 68 years of marriage before Joan’s passing in 2012. Five children came from their love: David (MaryAnn) Houser of Casa Grande, Arizona, Linda (Terry) Parsons of Scotts Valley, California, Steven Houser of “wherever the road leads him”, Ronald (Barbara) Houser of Bellefontaine, and Sandra (Robert) Lambert of Grove City; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren (one deceased); and two great-great-grandchildren.
Bob served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II in the South Pacific. Following his honorable discharge, Bob received his GI Bill and learned the upholstery trade in this father’s business, all while running a farm in West Mansfield. In 1969, Bob and Joan moved to Bellefontaine where he worked and retired from Merchants Industries.
He was a 4-H advisor, member of West Mansfield American Legion, National Campers and Hikers Association, Methodist Nomads, Sunny Hills Camping Club, was a Kentucky Colonel, and transported cars for Steve Austin’s. Bob enjoyed fishing, wood carving, lunch at the Senior Center, and playing dominos with special friends. There weren’t too many places he’d go that he didn’t know someone. Bob was always touched by peoples’ generosity, whether it was buying his meal, or even his groceries. His smile and fun-loving ways will be greatly missed.
