Robert “Bob” Edward Miller, 83, of Bellefontaine, passed away on Monday, Jan. 25, 2021, at Ohio State Medical Center’s Richard M. Ross Heart Hospital in Columbus.
Born Sept. 19, 1937, in West Mansfield, Robert was the son of Doit Edward and Bertha (Predmore) Miller. He graduated from Perry-Zane High School in 1955. On Dec. 2, 1962, he married Marilyn Sue (Johnson), and together they were the proud parents of three children. Robert served in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1961. He retired from Detroit Aluminum & Brass (DAB) in 1999 after 41 years of service. In 1972, he began delivering bundles for the Bellefontaine Examiner; he became the driver to offsite printing plants in 1999, retiring a second time in 2012.
Robert was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who cherished time spent with family—especially his grandkids. He will always be remembered for his big smile and willingness to lend a hand to anyone in need. Robert was a skilled carpenter; he built his family’s former A-frame home and helped others with their own construction projects. He was also a talented wood craftsman. Many in the family treasure the beautiful items he made for them, including grandfather clocks and hope chests. A humble, soft-spoken man, Robert liked to tinker in his workshop or on his Farmall tractors. In later years, he and Marilyn enjoyed frequenting local classic car shows.
Robert is survived by Marilyn, his loving wife of 58 years, their three children: Layne (Julie) Miller of Bellefontaine, Lori (Alan) Jones of Bellefontaine, and Lisa (Scott) Nevers of Crestview, Fla., seven grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and his beloved schnauzer, Bella. Robert is also survived by four siblings: Patricia Ceman of Windsor, Canada, Charolet (Carol) Losey of East Liberty, James (Linda) Miller of Pataskala, and Richard “Butch” (Peggy) Miller of LaGrange, Ky., as well as sister-in-law Janet Miller of West Mansfield, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Doit Edwin “Pete” Miller.
