Ridgemont Board of Education members accepted at their Thursday evening meeting the retirement resignation of longtime physical education teacher Greg Johnson, effective May 28.
District officials related Johnson has been with the district for 35 years as a teacher and served in various coaching positions. They noted that he stepped up by taking golf team coach position that was needed to keep the team afloat and dedicated himself to working with the team members.
“The board would like to thank Mr. Johnson for his 35 years of service to the Ridgemont students,” members said.
Superintendent Sally Henrick related that as this year winds to a close, the board will conduct its organizational meeting for 2021 at 5 p.m. Jan. 7, in math room 304. Corey Ledley was elected president pro-tempore for the session.
“Like many of you, we are looking forward to 2021,” she said. “Over the past year, we have weathered many changes together as a school district and community and we are thankful for your continued support and understanding. Each day we learn to make the best of our current and constantly changing situation. We appreciate our students, staff and parents as we work together to educate future generations.
“From the Ridgemont Board of Education, Administration, Staff, and Students, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.”
The district’s Christmas break takes place this week and continuing through Jan. 1, with students returning to school Jan. 4.
School is not in session Monday, Jan. 18, Martin Luther King Day, and Monday, Feb. 15, for Presidents Day. A two-hour delay is planned for Tuesday, Jan. 26, for teacher professional development.
The superintendent related that the district continues to share any updates for parents regarding the school schedule and COVID on social media and also at https://www.ridgemont.k12.oh.us/Ridgemont20-21Restart-ReopenResources.aspx.
In other action, the board:
• approved a three-year agreement with Smith Boughan for preventative maintenance;
• approved Danielle Webber, senior class adviser, for a supplemental contract step increase with experience verification;
• approved a teacher substitute from the Midwest Regional Educational Service Center, and district officials noted that they are still seeking qualified teacher substitutes;.
• approved a stipend for teachers for additional hours of professional development Jan. 12 and 14;
• approved student Hayden Freshcorn for early graduation;
• thanked the following donors: Trish Lones for a donation of 60 Beanie Babies to kindergarten students for Christmas gifts as “reading buddies”; Honda Transmission Mfg.’s donation of bottled water to students; Liberty National Bank’s donation of coats, hats, and gloves to students.
The next regular board meeting follows the Jan. 7 organizational meeting.
