SIDNEY RICHARDSON |
Ridgemont’s girls track and field team made the most of its small team to capture the Northwest Central Conference championship Saturday at Waynesfield-Goshen High School.
Sophomore Sidney Richardson highlighted the Gophers’ performance by being named the NWCC most valuable athlete. Hardin Northern’s Nick Barne and W-Goshen’s Tyler Eller were named the boys co-most valuable athletes.
The Gopher girls edged the host Tigers 113-110.5 to win the league championship, while Lehman Catholic came in third with 94 points. Riverside came in eighth with 12 points.
W-Goshen ran away with the boys NWCC championship after piling up 174 points. Upper Scioto Valley finished as runners-up with 101 points and Hardin Northern was third with 99 points. The Pirates were sixth with 36 points and the Gophers were seventh with 21 points.
Richardson’s honor was well deserved. The Gopher standout won the 100 (12.6) and the long jump (15-8) and took second in the 200 (26.5) and the 400 (1:02.9).
Meadow Cromer also had a strong showing for Ridgemont’s girls by winning the pole vault (10-0) and the high jump (4-10). She also took third in the 400 (1:07.8) and sixth in the 200 (29.6).
