Richard Ellsworth Saylor, 90, of Belle Center, passed away Monday evening, October 4, 2021, at his home.
Richard was born in Belle Center on May 22, 1931, to the late Robert Ellsworth and Ethel Blanche (Fullerton) Saylor. He married Barbara J. (Herren) on May 4, 1949, in Kentucky and she preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a son Richard Ellsworth Saylor II, sister Ethel Geraldine Lapp, and brother James Robert Saylor.
Richard is survived by his children: Robert W. Saylor of Salisbury, North Carolina, Jeff (Tammy) Saylor of Bellefontaine, and Jennifer (Jim) Dysert of Huntsville; 6 grandchildren: Michele (Mike) Brown, Rod Saylor, Dodi (Brian) Beaver, Darci (Steve) Fox, Troy (Erin) Saylor, and Lacy (Parry) Hitt; 9 great-grandchildren: Katie Beaver, Levi Beaver, Mickayla (Matthew) Harding, Marina Fox, Avery Fox, Zachary Fox, Evan Fox, Emma Saylor, Maverick Saylor; three step-great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild Mason Harding; sisters-in-law Wanda Saylor of Belle Center, and Nancy Herren of Lima; a brother-in-law Mark Lapp of West Liberty.
A lifelong farmer, Richard had worked for nearly 20 years at D.A.B. as a mill operator. He then went to work for the State of Ohio as a plow operator and road worker. After retiring from the state, Richard worked for Quality Paving for several years. For many years, Richard hauled livestock between producers and harvesters. He was a member of the Belle Center United Methodist Church, and was active in the Ohio Western Horse Association and other horse organizations.
Friends may call Thursday, October 7, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, Belle Center. Pastor John Watkins will officiate Richard’s funeral on Friday, October 8, at 11 a.m. at the Belle Center United Methodist Church, 202 E. Main St. Belle Center. Burial will be Fairview Cemetery, Belle Center.
