Richard D. “Rick” Riel, 63, passed away unexpectedly at his North Lewisburg home. He was born in Youngstown on Sept. 4, 1954, to the late Richard and Betty Grazier Riel.
Rick is survived by his three daughters, Cheri (Johnny) Myrthil, Mindy (Steve) Wilczynski and Lisa (Patrick) Fox; six grandchildren, Raymond, Adrian, Kayla, Alyssa, AJ and Jaxon; three great-grandchildren, Marlee, Levi and Matheo; a sister, Christy (Wayne) Slaubaugh; two brothers, Mark Riel and Paul Riel; and many nieces and nephews.
Rick was a loving father who enjoyed the simple things in life. He spent his time surrounded by friends and family. He had an infectious smile and the biggest heart.
You would catch him all summer long wearing John Deere green, cheering for a full pull at tractor pulls across the state. A self-employed carpenter, Rick had been a member of FFA, 4-H and was an avid supporter of Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 22, at Grace Chapel, 500 Linden St., West Liberty, where a funeral service begins at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, West Liberty.
