Derrick D. Williams, 36, of Lima, was charged with felony domestic violence Tuesday and was lodged in the Logan County Jail, approximately two months after he also was arrested for the same crime involving the same victim, deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report.
Deputies first responded about 5:20 p.m. Monday to his girlfriend’s address on Rosewood Avenue in regard to a trespass complaint. Williams reportedly had been at the home and there was a no contact order that the victim had in place against him following the previous Nov. 26 incident and arrest.
While deputies were speaking with the his girlfriend, they learned that Williams had assaulted her Saturday, and she had sustained possible broken ribs. She told deputies that she sought treatment at an urgent care facility. She was advised by staff there that she needed to go to the emergency room for an MRI, but she said she ignored the suggestion and went home.
The victim later told deputies that Williams had wanted to be involved in her life again after she gave birth to his child in early January. While she said he had not physically harmed the infant, she said he started beating her again after that time.
His girlfriend did not want to file a report Monday, but deputies responded back to the residence about 3:05 p.m. Tuesday to make contact with her, as Logan County Children’s Services had requested a well-being check on her and the infant.
Deputies could not get anyone to answer the door at the home, and learned from the victim’s friend that Williams was inside the residence. Deputies eventually forced entry to the home after contacting the defendant’s probation officer. Officers of the Russells Point Police Department arrived to assist.
Williams was placed under arrest without further incident, and also was charged with contempt of court. A report regarding possible charges of unlawful restraint was sent to the Logan County Prosecutor’s Office.
The infant also was removed from the home by Logan County Children’s Services after the mother failed a drug screen. She said she had used methamphetamine with the defendant during the last 24 hours.
